Friday Harbour

MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to provide a rest stop for those individuals who tirelessly accompany their loved ones to & from medical facilities for extensive cancer treatment.  By offering a provisional lodging option, we hope to bring some solace to these devoted companions, ease the load of care giving, and help restore the mind, body, and spirit for the journey ahead. Friday Harbour is a local Houston based, not-for-profit organization focused on providing support for caregivers of family members or friends receiving medical treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center.     PURPOSE Every day, we encounter someone who is battling cancer.  Regardless of whether that person is directly related to us or not, we are struck by the enormity of this illness.  We can hardly imagine what this individual must face.  Furthermore, we cannot even begin to digest the continual impact this disease has on family and friends striving to support the patient.   Our goal is to alleviate at least some of the strain that is imposed on the caregivers.  These individuals juggle enormous responsibilities, and our desire is to provide a place of respite for them.  Friday Harbour will offer lodging vouchers for rooms at nearby hotels for families and friends of patients so that these individuals are not burdened with the task of finding or funding shelter, especially after long days supporting treatment. By tapping into our resources, planning fundraisers, and generating community awareness, Friday Harbour will strive to lend a helping hand to anyone who is need of assistance.     www.FridayHarbour.org P.O.
