Mirjam Eckert

Chief Publishing Officer at Frontiers

Mirjam oversees Journal Launch and Development as well as Peer Review at Frontiers. She joined in 2014 as Journal Manager, led the Frontiers Editorial Office from 2015 and became Publishing Director in 2019.

Mirjam trained in molecular biology, earning a PhD from the University of Dundee, Scotland. She continued her research on gene expression regulation by a tumour suppressor protein there, then studied anti-viral immunity at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2010 she transitioned into academic publishing, joining the open-access Journal of the International AIDS Society as Managing Editor and attaining board-certification as editor in the life sciences. Mirjam was an elected council member and trustee of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) from 2012 to 2019, where she was the chair of the outreach committee for several years.
