Dean Thompson

Dean Thompson has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies.

Starting in 2000, they worked as a Network Engineer for Jumbuck, where they helped establish the company's internet presence and implemented an internal intranet.

In 2002, Dean worked as an Instructor at Monash IT Institute, where they shared their knowledge and expertise.

From 2003 to 2009, they served as a Network Engineer for Australian Telecoms Exchange Pty Ltd, where they designed and implemented the company's internal intranet and data infrastructure, enabling the company to become a VoIP inter-change for multiple companies.

In 2007, Dean also worked as the Financial Services Lead Coordinator for Cyberstorm II at CERT Australia, where they coordinated inputs, artifacts, and injects for the exercise and ensured cross-communication among different financial sectors.

In 2009, Dean took on the role of Financial Services Lead Coordinator for Cyberstorm III at CERT Australia, working throughout the financial sector to build out the scenario and coordinate all exercise elements.

Dean joined ANZ in 2004 and held various positions within the company. Dean served as a Security Intrusion Detection/Security Services Manager, where they provided expertise and technology uplift to ANZ's Cyber Security Response team. Dean later became the Security Operations Centre Manager and then the Senior Manager of Cyber Security Intelligence Operations & Engineering, responsible for establishing and leading the Threat Intelligence and Engineering functions.

Since 2017, Dean has been involved with FS-ISAC, serving as the Chairperson of the APAC Threat Intelligence Committee and a member of the APAC Threat Intelligence Committee.

Dean is also a member of various technical committees at OASIS, such as the CACO Technical Committee, TAC Technical Committee, and CTI Technical Committee.

Most recently, Dean became a Charter Member of the FAIR Institute in 2020.

Dean Thompson's education history includes:

- From 1997 to 2002, Dean studied at Monash University and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science.

- In 1996, Dean completed an Honours (1st Class) degree in Bachelor of Computing at Monash University.

- From 1993 to 1995, Dean pursued a Bachelor of Computing degree at Monash University.

- In 2004, Dean attended Box Hill Institute and earned an Advanced Diploma in Computing Systems Engineering.

- From 1987 to 1992, Dean attended Kingswood College and earned a Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

- Dean holds vendor qualifications/experience in various areas, including Checkpoint, CISCO, Eclectic IQ, FireEye, Linux, Microsoft, NetIQ, Palo Alto, Solaris, and Symantec.

- Dean has also presented and participated as a panel speaker at public events and conferences.

- Dean obtained additional certifications, including Palo Alto Networks' Firewall 8.0 Essentials - Configuration and Management in July 2017, the ITIL V3 Foundation Level from ALC Training in May 2012, and the Certified Cisco Network Administrator certification from Cisco in 2003.
