Helen Thomas is an experienced risk management professional with a comprehensive background in financial services. Currently serving as a Relationship Manager at the Financial Services Regulatory Authority since January 2017, Helen oversees risk and regulatory management for Credit Unions, focusing on risk assessment and governance standards. Prior roles include Senior Manager of Enterprise Risk Management at BMO Financial Group, where significant contributions were made to the management of risk appetite policies, and Vice President of Corporate Banking at BMO Capital Markets, recognized with the Women in Capital Markets "Back to Bay Street Award." Helen's earlier experience includes leadership positions at The Toronto Stock Exchange, Credit Lyonnais Bank Canada, and National Westminster Bank, with a strong track record in business origination, credit structuring, and relationship management. Helen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.
Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA)
The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is a new, independent regulatory agency created to improve consumer and pension plan beneficiary protections in Ontario. FSRA was established to replace the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) and the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (DICO). The agency is flexible, self-funded and designed to respond rapidly to an evolving commercial and consumer environment.
