Paul Shires has a diverse work experience. Paul began their career as an Exercise Rider at Windfields Farm from February 2007 to March 2008. Paul then worked as an Enumerator at Statistics Canada for two months in 2011. Following that, they joined Travelers Canada, where they held various roles such as Underwriting Assistant, Underwriting Analyst, and Senior Underwriting Analyst from March 2008 to June 2014. Paul also worked as a Consultant from June 2014 to September 2015, before becoming the Director of Business Performance Analytics from October 2015 to February 2020. Currently, Paul is employed at the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) as the Senior Manager of Risk Classification Systems and Analysis, and from March 2023, they have been serving as the Director of Data Science.
Paul Shires earned a B.A. in International Economics from The American University of Paris in 2005. Paul then pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Quantitative Development Economics from the University of Bristol, which they completed in 2007. Prior to their university education, Paul attended St. Paul's School for Boys from 1999 to 2001. In addition to their academic achievements, they obtained certifications as a Chartered Insurance Professional from The Insurance Institute of Canada in 2016.
Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA)
The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is a new, independent regulatory agency created to improve consumer and pension plan beneficiary protections in Ontario. FSRA was established to replace the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) and the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (DICO). The agency is flexible, self-funded and designed to respond rapidly to an evolving commercial and consumer environment.
