Fabio Barteri has a diverse work experience in the field of bioinformatics and research. Fabio started their career as an Internship student at the Dipartimento di Istologia ed Embriologia Medica- "Sapienza" University of Rome, where they focused on the cytological, molecular, and physiologic investigation of cancer cachexia. Fabio then joined PRBB (Barcelona Biomedical Research Park) as a Visiting Student in 2013.
In 2014, Barteri worked as a Bioinformatician at Fondazione Santa Lucia for a brief period. Fabio then pursued a PhD at the Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics from 2015 to 2019, where they specialized as a PHD Candidate.
In 2018, they gained international exposure as a Visiting Research Scholar at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Following this, Barteri joined the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra) as a Post-Doc Bioinformatician in 2019. Fabio later advanced to the position of Visiting Researcher at the same institute.
Recently, in 2021, Barteri became the Bioinformatics Lab Manager at Fundació Pasqual Maragall. This comprehensive journey in various research positions showcases Barteri's expertise and commitment to the field of bioinformatics and evolutionary biology.
Fabio Barteri's education history begins in 2003 when they enrolled in Sapienza Università di Roma to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology. Fabio completed their undergraduate studies in 2010. Following this, they enrolled at the same institution for a postgraduate program and obtained a Laurea Magistrale LM in Biologia Cellulare in 2014. In December 2014, they also obtained a certification in IELTS from the British Council.
Furthering their academic journey, Fabio Barteri pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computational Genomics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2015 to 2019.

At the Pasqual Maragall Foundation we are working towards a future without Alzheimer’s. Our research focuses on how to stop this disease and prevent its progress before the onset of symptoms, given that any damage it causes in the brain begins decades before the disease manifests itself. We also help to improve the lives of people with the disease and their families by offering therapy groups for caregivers. The Foundation also works to raise the public’s awareness on the effects and consequences of Alzheimer’s and to obtain support for scientific research in this field - the only strategy that will provide us with solutions to these challenges. Our scientific activity is carried out through our research institute, the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Centre, a one-of-a-kind advanced research institution working in collaboration with Pompeu Fabra University. The aim of this centre is to conduct clinical research on the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and associated cognitive functions in both healthy and pathological ageing. Our facility offers a range of equipment, including a neuroimaging platform with a state-of-the-art 3T MRI machine, used for obtaining and processing high-quality images of the brain. Although the Pasqual Maragall Foundation is young, it is now well-established and enjoying growth. At present, there are more than 65 employees working for us, a team consisting of researchers, technicians and professionals from the fields of medicine, psychology, biology, and nursing. The foundation also has financial, purchasing, human resources, communication, fund-raising, maintenance and IT departments. And we are not alone. More than 2,700 people altruistically participate in the research studies conducted by our foundation, which also has a network of 15,000 members and contributors.
