After completing fellowships in Nottingham, London, and New York, Omar was appointed as a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals in 2012. He was also appointed as an Associate Lecturer and Examiner at Newcastle University where he would continue with his passion for medical education.
