Patricia Varela

Patricia Varela has extensive work experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Patricia most recently served as the Head of Global Technical Operations at Further Group starting in July 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Marketing Actuary at SCOR from June 2019 to May 2021. Patricia also held various roles at Munich Re (Group), including Regional Technical Manager Life LA South, Senior pricing actuary, and a leadership position in the actuarial team. Patricia has experience in insurance markets such as Chile, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Bolivia. Patricia began their career at Mapfre Re, where they worked as a Life underwriter, handling reinsurance pricing, accounting, and underwriting processes.

Patricia Varela obtained a Civil Industrial Engineer degree in Business Administration from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile from 1986 to 1991. In 1996, they specialized in Insurance and Reinsurance through a program at SITC. Patricia also obtained a Diploma in Actuarial Ingineering from the Chilean Insurance School in 2006. Moreover, they completed a Stochastic Modeling program in @risk from Palisade in 2014. In 2017-2018, they pursued an expertise in the Munich Re Group. Patricia has also pursued various other degrees from various institutions from 2000 to 2019. Additionally, Patricia Varela obtained a certification in Business Analytics from Emeritus in 2020. Patricia is currently working on acquiring the qualification of Mediador de seguros nivel 2 from Apromes, which they are expected to complete by 2023.
