Roberto Rivera, Ed.S, currently serves as the 9th Grade Academy LEAD/AP and Alternative School Director at Gainesville City Schools since July 2019, where a strong commitment to student success and problem-solving leadership is evident. Rivera has extensive experience in education, having held roles such as Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Paulding County Schools, Assistant Principal at Marietta City Schools, and various teaching and coaching positions in the Cobb County School District and Delaware Schools. Additionally, Rivera is a GHSA Certified Wrestling Official with a notable coaching background. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Northern Illinois University, an Associate's degree from Southwestern Illinois College, a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University, and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Kennesaw State University.

Gainesville City School System was one of the first four charter systems in Georgia and earned its charter status in June 2008. In 2013, the district received a ten year charter - which extends to June 2023. As a charter system, our Board of Education utilizes flexibility in local school governance to provide innovative learning environments for approximately 8,000 students. The Gainesville City Board of Education is recognized as a 2018 Quality School Board by the Georgia School Boards Association. The School Board is committed to maintaining compliance in all state-mandated standards for local school board governance while providing quality education to all children.
