Steve Costalas is the chief legal officer, responsible for leading Gainwell’s Legal, Contracts, Ethics, and Compliance groups. His areas of focus include advising on contracts for new and existing clients and working side by side with program teams. Steve’s role also encompasses activities dealing with litigation, disputes, and responses to government investigations. In the area of ethics and compliance, he ensures Gainwell has appropriate policies and procedures in place to address organizational and compliance issues.
Steve brings strategic and creative business advice to Gainwell, as well as experience with carve-out and spinoff initiatives. Before joining Gainwell, he was CEO at HVH Precision Analytics, a provider of advanced healthcare analytics. During his tenure, the company significantly grew its year-over-year revenue, expanded its offerings and customer base, and transitioned its analytics to a SaaS platform.
Before that, Steve was SVP and general counsel of Vencore, now Perspecta. His responsibilities included leading Vencore’s legal and ethics, corporate development, contracts, procurement, and property management organizations. During Steve’s employment, the company significantly increased revenue and the breadth of its customers and offerings via acquisitions and organic growth.
Other career highlights include Steve’s position as counsel at the international law firm Dechert, where he led teams structuring corporate acquisitions and dispositions, equity investments, and complex collaborations, focusing on the life sciences industry. He also served as general counsel and head of corporate development of Pharmacopeia, a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company.
Steve graduated with honors from Dartmouth College and from the Law School of the University of Pennsylvania. He regularly speaks and publishes on industry topics. Since 2015, he has served on the board of directors of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a post-9/11 non-profit organization.
