Medical Director, Specialty Programs at Galileo

Colleen Surlyn, MD, MPH has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Colleen is currently working at Galileo as the Medical Director for Specialty Programs since July 2023. Prior to that, they served as the Medical Director for the New York Region at Galileo from March 2022 to July 2023, and as the Medical Director for the Upstate NY Market from October 2021 to March 2022.

Before joining Galileo, Colleen worked at Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center as the Associate Medical Director for Adult Medicine from January 2021 to September 2021.

Colleen also has extensive experience with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Colleen held multiple roles, including Medical Director of Care Coordination from September 2016 to January 2021. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing the Complex Care Management Program, leading the Health Homes Program, co-leading the Transitions Task Force, and serving as the quality improvement lead for care coordination programming within SFHN. Colleen was also a co-lead of the Primary Care Based Hepatitis C treatment initiative. Additionally, they served as the Medical Director of Potrero Hill Health Center from August 2019 to May 2020, and as a Physician Specialist in Population Health from September 2015 to September 2016.

Colleen has also worked at UCSF, where they served as an Attending Physician and Volunteer Clinical Faculty from September 2015 to January 2021.

Earlier in their career, Colleen worked at The Mount Sinai Hospital as an Attending Physician and NRSA Primary Care Research Fellow from July 2013 to August 2015. Colleen also worked at UCSF Medical Center as an Attending Physician and Clinical Instructor from July 2012 to July 2013, and as an Internal Medicine and Primary Care Physician from July 2009 to June 2012.

Colleen's career began at the National Institutes of Health, where they worked as a Research Associate from June 2003 to June 2004.

Colleen Surlyn, MD, MPH has a comprehensive education history. Colleen obtained their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History/Biology from Georgetown University. Following their undergraduate studies, they attended NYU Grossman School of Medicine and earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Colleen then pursued further training in Internal Medicine by participating in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of California, San Francisco.

Seeking to broaden their knowledge and expertise, Colleen pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on Outcomes Research at the esteemed Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

In addition to their extensive education, Colleen has obtained various certifications to enhance their professional qualifications. Colleen is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Colleen is also certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).

Furthermore, Colleen has acquired a Buprenorphine Waiver from the Drug Enforcement Administration, enabling their to prescribe medications for the treatment of opioid addiction. Colleen holds medical licensure from multiple state medical boards, including California, New York, Texas, North Carolina, Washington, and New Mexico.
