Michael Howell

Michael Howell has had a long and successful career in a variety of industries. Michael is currently a Non-Executive Director at Gama Aviation. Michael previously served as a Member of Council at the University of Leeds from September 2016 to July 2020. In this role, they represented the Clothworkers' Company of London, which co-founded the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874. The University of Leeds now has over 35,000 full-time students and 8,200 staff, and is ranked as one of the world's top 100 universities.

From May 2006 to February 2017, Howell served as a Board Director and Audit Committee Chair at HUTCHMED. HUTCHMED is a minority subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings of Hong Kong and develops targeted drug therapies for global oncology and immunology markets. The company was floated on NASDAQ in March 2016 and has a market capitalization of approximately $4 billion.

Howell has also served as a Member Board of Directors at Wabtec Corporation since May 2003, and as a Member of the Trustee Board (Chairman 2006-12) at the City & Guilds of London Institute since September 2000. Michael was also Commercial Director at Railtrack Group plc from March 1996 to September 1997.

Michael Howell has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School in Finance & Strategy in International Business and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD in Business Administration and Management. Michael also has a MA from the University of Cambridge in Engineering (part 1 - fast course '65-67), Economics (part II - '67-69). Lastly, they have A & S Levels in Science and Mathematics from Charterhouse School.
