Alexandra Figueroa has had a varied and impressive career in the health and biotechnology industries. Alexandra began their career in 2012 as a Summer Fellow at Health Leads, where they advised patients on useful resources for preventative healthcare and worked with NYCHA, WIC, and SNAP to provide patients with subsidies for healthier living. In 2013, they became a Project Contact at New York Methodist Hospital, where they worked with registrars and EMTs to expedite patient registration and increase efficiency within the ER. Alexandra also organized data collected from patients and presented it to medical professionals, and scheduled follow-up appointments for patients and collected feedback on quality of care. In 2014, Alexandra became a Health Leader at New York University, where they collaborated with university administrators to encourage preventative health through local projects and events, and publicized health issues impacting young adults by creating media campaigns and instructional materials. In 2015, they became a Data Entry Clerk at Riley Hospital for Children, where they collected and analyzed data for quality assurance projects with the medical director of cardiovascular ICU, and utilized the EHR system to compile and enter patient data into Excel spreadsheets. In 2019, Alexandra began working at Tulane University as a Laboratory Research Technician, where they worked in the Galazo Lab in the Department of Structural and Cell Biology and completed behavioral training using optogenetic stimulation in mice to assess the role of striatal pathways in spatial learning and memory. Alexandra also managed lab operations, corresponded with vendors to order supplies, documented purchasing history, performed reagent preparation and chemical inventory, and ensured IACUC compliance. Additionally, they maintained a mouse colony with up to 4 different lines of double knockout mice, and completed breeding colony management training and injection trainings. That same year, Alexandra also became a Medical Scribe at ScribeAmerica, where they transcribed complete patient medical histories, including procedures and lab results, using the EHR system (Epic). In 2021, they began working at NYU Langone Health as an Assistant Research Scientist and Research Associate. Finally, in 2022, Alexandra became a Laboratory Manager at Gameto, a biotechnology company using cell engineering to develop therapeutics for diseases of the female reproductive system.
Alexandra Figueroa attended Stanford University from 2009 to present, where they completed the High School Summer College program. Alexandra then attended New York University from 2011 to 2015 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, General. Finally, they attended Tulane University School of Medicine from 2016 to 2017 and earned a Master of Science in Anatomy.
