Emma Schott

Head, Product & Operations at Ganaz

Emma Schott is the current head of product and operations at Ganaz, a position they have held for 1 year 9 months. Prior to their current role, Emma was the director of product at Ganaz for 1 year 9 months. Emma has also worked as a technical program manager at Zipline International Inc. for 3 years 10 months. In this role, Emma was responsible for defining the development and testing milestones for the design, build, and test of Zipline's first production-level drone. Emma also worked with the team to make sure that they achieved these milestones. The drones have been flying operationally in Rwanda and Ghana for the last 2 years and have performed over 40,000 customer deliveries. As operations have ramped up, Emma has transitioned to an operations-focused role, where they have developed the technical support system for Zipline's in-field operators and worked with the engineering teams to investigate and resolve issues in the field. This has involved building and implementing a help desk, software and hardware release processes, and configuration control, in addition to hundreds of operational procedures. Emma has also grown the operations engineering team to 5 people. As Zipline's operations have grown from 10 operators in one location to hundreds of operators in 3 countries, Emma has been a project, product, and program manager for many initiatives. These have ranged from improving Zipline's engineering and operations processes, to taking over and restructuring their field ops test team, to implementing job ladders and a performance review process for their international operators. One project that Emma is especially proud of is their work with the site bring up team (a multidisciplinary ops/engineering team responsible for adding new delivery routes to their network). Through their work with this team, Emma was able to increase their capacity from 1 new route per month to 500+ new routes per month (and it is still growing!).

Emma Schott studied astrophysics at Williams College from 2006 to 2010. During their time at Williams College, they were involved in Sigma Xi, Astrophysics Teaching Assistant, Hopkins Planetarium TA, ScientEPHic Quarterly Editor, Writing Workshop Tutor, Women's Crew, and Student Symphony.

The people who work with Emma Schott include their colleagues Kyle Johnson, Martha Gonzalez, Alexia Daly, and Roberto De Leon, as well as the people who report to her, Diego Rodriguez and Midori Pinillos.
