Alicia Jones

Research Assistant at Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Alicia Jones has a diverse work experience starting in 2011 as an HSC Mathematics and Science Tutor, where they tailored lessons to individual students and encouraged critical thinking. In 2015, they interned at Concert Pharmaceuticals, Inc., gaining skills and experience in a professional science laboratory. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as a barista at Rusti Fig Cafe, followed by a role as a researcher at the Australasian Wildlife Genomics Group, where they performed transcriptome assembly and designed primers for gene analysis. From 2020 to 2021, they worked at Bootleg Cafe as a barista, involved in customer service, staff training, and ordering stock. Most recently, Alicia worked at Histopath Diagnostic Specialists as a Molecular/Microbiology Scientific Officer, conducting diagnostic testing for gastrointestinal and respiratory infections using various techniques such as nucleic acid extraction and PCR. In 2023, Alicia will start working as a Research Assistant at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

Alicia Jones began their education at Barrenjoey High School, where they obtained their Higher School Certificate from 2011-2015. Alicia then went on to pursue their Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Immunology at the University of Sydney from 2016-2019. Alicia continued their education at the same institution and completed their Master of Medicine in Infection and Immunity from 2020-2021.
