Carsten Schmitz-Peiffer

Visiting Scientist at Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Carsten Schmitz-Peiffer has significant work experience in the field of medical research and academia. Carsten currently holds the position of Principal Research Fellow at the University of Sydney, starting in July 2022. Prior to this, they were a Visiting Scientist at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, where they also served as the Laboratory Head of the Insulin Signalling Group and a Senior Research Fellow from an unknown start date until July 2022.

In addition, Carsten Schmitz-Peiffer has held academic roles at the University of New South Wales. Carsten was an Associate Professor from January 2016 onwards, contributing to the supervision and mentoring of Honours and post-graduate students, as well as delivering undergraduate lectures on diabetes and metabolism. From 2006 to 2015, they worked as a Senior Lecturer at the same institution.

Carsten Schmitz-Peiffer obtained their B.A. (Hons) in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) from the University of Cambridge, where they attended from 1984 to 1987. Prior to that, they completed their secondary education at Burnham Grammar School between 1977 and 1983. Carsten then pursued further education at the University of Bristol, where they obtained their PhD in Biochemistry from 1987 to 1990.
