James Thompson

Senior Research Fellow at Garvan Institute of Medical Research

James Thompson has a strong background in urologic surgery and research. James has held various consultant positions at top medical institutions, including The Urology Practice, St Vincents Clinic, St Vincent's Private Hospital Sydney, St George Private Hospital, UNSW, St George Hospital, and Hurstville Private Hospital. Additionally, they have served as a Senior Research Fellow at both the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and The Kinghorn Cancer Centre. Prior to their positions in Australia, James gained valuable experience at the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom, where they completed a 12-month sub-specialty fellowship in robotic pelvic uro-oncology. This fellowship gave him expertise in robotic surgery for prostate and bladder cancer, and they were subsequently offered a consultant appointment.

James Thompson completed their education in a chronological manner. James began their education in 1993 at St Aloysius College Sydney, where they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. From 2001 to 2007, they studied Medicine at UNSW, earning a BSc MBBS with Honors 1. Finally, from 2012 to 2016, James pursued a PhD at UNSW in the field of prostate cancer and biostatistics.
