Sandy Pineda

Sandy Pineda has a diverse work experience in research positions. From 2019 to the present, Sandy worked as a Research Associate at the Brain and Mind Centre, University of Sydney. Prior to that, from 2017 onwards, they worked as a Research Officer at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. From 2012 to 2017, Sandy served as a Research Officer at the Institute for Molecular Biosciences, where they focused on studying how spiders generate chemical diversity in their venom. They specialized in analyzing transcriptomes and developing bioinformatic tools for peptide discovery. In 2007, Sandy worked as a Research Assistant at Biochips Innovations. Additionally, they also had a teaching role as an Interim Teacher of Genetics and Molecular Biology at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala in 2007. Sandy's earliest research role was as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala from 2003 to 2006, where they conducted research on triatomine insect populations and their role in causing Chagas disease.

Sandy Pineda holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, which was obtained from The University of Queensland between the years 2008 and 2012. Prior to earning the PhD, Sandy completed a Master's degree in Molecular Biology at The University of Queensland from 2007 to 2008. Sandy's undergraduate education took place at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from 1999 to 2006.
