With more than 1.8 million visitors annually the Gasteig is Germany’s largest and most successful arts and culture centre. On a floorspace of 80,000 m² the location comprises auditoriums – including the prestigious Philharmonic Hall – as well as rooms and foyers that host a wide range of events such as concerts, shows, theatre and dance performances, readings, receptions, presentations, press conferences, lectures, film and music festivals, seminars, exhibitions and conventions. Situated near the Isar river, the Gasteig has been home to renowned institutions such as the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich City Library, the Münchner Volkshochschule adult education centre and the University of Music and Performing Arts since 1984. The Gasteig is operated by Gasteig GmbH, a holding company of the City of Munich, which is responsible for the technical and organisational aspects of hosting about 1800 events per year.
