Gaston Adolescent Center
AJ Sims is an Intensive In-Home Associate Professional at Gaston Adolescent Center since May 2023, providing support services including crisis and behavior management, as well as individual counseling for school-aged children. Prior to this role, AJ gained valuable experience as a student intern at the same center and at Families First in Cabarrus County, assisting students with emotional regulation and conflict resolution. AJ has a background in admissions counseling for diversity initiatives at UC Santa Barbara, where responsibilities included advising potential applicants and new students. Other experiences include serving as a Faculty Advisor for Envision Experience, a Diversity Initiative Intern at Occidental College, and a Junior Counselor at Bank Street College of Education. AJ holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Occidental College.
