Ira Martopullo has a diverse work experience spanning several years in various research roles. They have worked as a Research Fellow at Gates Ventures since 2022. Prior to this, they had extensive experience at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, where they held roles such as Graduate Student Research Assistant, Research Scientist, and Global Burden of Disease Researcher focusing on maternal and child health. They also worked as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Washington, conducting research on biomarkers and their relationship to neuromotor development in HIV-1 infected children. Additionally, they gained research experience at Fred Hutch, where they studied HIV-1 resistance and participated in population studies. Furthermore, Ira worked as a Research Scientist Assistant at the University of Washington, leading a project on screening genes related to Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy. They also gained experience in research techniques and statistical analysis as a Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota. In addition, Ira worked as an RA/Instructor at Exploration Summer Programs, where they developed a curriculum on Genetic Engineering and Immunology for high school students. Lastly, they served as a Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, contributing to research on heart development.
Ira Martopullo pursued education in various institutions throughout their academic journey. From 2021 to 2026, they attended the University of Washington, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Global Health Metrics. Prior to that, from 2014 to 2016, Ira also attended the University of Washington, where they earned a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) with a focus on Epidemiology. Their undergraduate studies were conducted at Macalester College, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biology, General, from 2008 to 2012. Furthermore, from 2006 to 2008, Ira attended the United World College SEA, where they achieved an IB Diploma.
