Marco Oosterwijk

Marco Oosterwijk currently serves as Burgemeester of Gemeente Ridderkerk since May 2023. Alongside this role, Marco is a board member of Koninklijke Binnenvaart Nederland, contributing to the organization's leadership since its establishment in April 2022 after a merger. From January 2019, Marco has held various governance positions, including being the chair of Stichting Vrienden van Zjitomir, which focuses on combating poverty and addiction in the Zjitomir region of Ukraine, and previously as chair of the Historische Kring Krimpen aan den IJssel until May 2023. Marco's past municipal experience includes serving as an extraordinary civil registrar in Ridderkerk and as Wethouder for Finance, Housing, Spatial Planning, Ground Company, and Licensing from February 2019 to May 2022. Additionally, Marco participated in coalition formation efforts in Maassluis in early 2022 and held positions in various commissions related to economic environment in the Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag. Marco holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management, Economie & Recht from Ichthus Hogeschool.
