Kira R. has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biotechnology and genomics. Kira currently holds the position of Head of Data Management at Genective, starting in March 2023. Prior to this, Kira worked as a Sr. Bioinformatician at Biomason from March 2022 to September 2022, and as a Sr. Computational Biologist at Indigo from January 2021 to February 2022.
Before joining Indigo, Kira worked at AgBiome as a Bioinformatics Scientist / Data Scientist from July 2014 to December 2020. Kira'swork focused on high-throughput data-mining of bacterial genomic sequences to identify commercially relevant gene families and bacteria with commercially relevant properties, resulting in national and international patents.
Prior to their role at AgBiome, Kira worked at Bayer CropScience as a Geneticist from November 2010 to June 2014. Kira'sresponsibilities included specialized database management and organization of high-throughput DNA sequencing data to aid in novel gene identification. Kira also contributed to the development and beta testing of commercially available genome finishing bioinformatics software.
Kira started their career as a Post-doctorate at the Institute for Genome Sciences at Duke University from March 2008 to November 2010. During this time, they conducted analysis of repetitive centromeric DNA content in primate species and contributed to the linear assembly of a human centromere on the Y chromosome.
Overall, Kira R. has demonstrated their expertise in bioinformatics, genomic data analysis, and gene discovery throughout their career, with a focus on commercial applications in the biotechnology industry.
Kira R. received their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Cornell University in 1999. During their time at Cornell, they double majored in Biology and Chemistry. Continuing their education, Kira went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Genetics at the University of Connecticut from 1999 to 2007.
