James Russell-Jones has extensive work experience in the legal field. James started their career as a Trainee Solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills in 2003, where they later became an Associate and then a Senior Associate. During this time, they advised both public and private sector clients on large and complex PFI and PPP projects across various sectors, including health, education, waste, and defense.

In 2011, James joined BP plc as a Legal Counsel, where they specialized in advising on major development projects in Angola and Azerbaijan, such as the Greater Plutonio, PSVM, and Shah Deniz 2 projects. James'sresponsibilities included providing advice on procurement and supply chain management, risk management, analyzing contracts, and addressing legal issues related to employment, IP, competition, procurement, anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and corruption, and trade sanctions law.

In 2014, James moved to Ophir-Energy as a Senior Legal Counsel, where they continued to apply their expertise in the legal field until 2019.

Currently, James holds the position of Head of Legal and Compliance at Genel Energy PLC, starting in September 2022.

James Russell-Jones has a well-rounded education history. Starting from 1998 to 2001, they attended the University of Cambridge, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics and successfully obtained an MA. Following this, they attended The College of Law from 2001 to 2002, where they earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. Subsequently, James went on to study at BPP Law School from 2002 to 2003, acquiring a Legal Practice Course degree in Law.
