Heming Yao

Heming Yao is a Senior AI Scientist at Genentech since January 2022, with prior experience as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Michigan from July 2017 to December 2021, where multiple artificial intelligence systems for decision-making, particularly in image and video processing, were designed and implemented. Additionally, during an AI internship at Genentech in mid-2021 and a research internship at Google in summer 2020, advancements in machine learning models were achieved, including notable improvements in tuberculosis classification through innovative algorithm development. Earlier experience includes a position as a Visiting Research Fellow at Boston Children's Hospital, focusing on genomics data standards. Heming Yao holds a PhD in Machine Learning in Healthcare from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's degree in Biomathematics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology from the University of Science and Technology of China.
