David P. Schissel

Director, Computer Systems And Science at General Atomics

David P. Schissel has extensive experience in the field of nuclear fusion and computer systems, currently serving as the Director of Computer Systems and Science at General Atomics since September 1982. In this role, David oversees the computing infrastructure that supports the scientific missions of the DIII-D National Fusion Facility, collaborating with over 500 researchers globally. Additionally, David has held various leadership positions, including Director of Nirvana Software, overseeing large-scale data management systems, and Director of the Advanced Imagery Laboratory, focusing on innovations in security and surveillance technologies. With a strong background as a Principal Scientist and other roles at the DIII-D facility, David has contributed significantly to experimental design and international collaborative efforts in plasma physics. David's educational credentials include a Master's degree in Plasma and High-Temperature Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
