Steve Mao

Principal Pipeline Engineer at Genesis

Steve Mao began their career in 2000 as a CAE Analyst contractor at General Motors, where they focused on modeling driveshaft whirl dynamics and performing FEA modeling of transmissions and driveshafts. Steve then worked as a Senior Development Engineer at LMS, A Siemens Business, from 2001 to 2008, where they implemented new capabilities and improved the performance of the commercial software package LMS Virtual. In 2008, Steve moved to BAE Systems, where they served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, conducting FEA modeling of army trucks and evaluating their performance using NRMMII. Steve joined Schlumberger in 2010 as a Mechanical Engineer in the Bit and Advanced Technology department. There, they were responsible for developing down hole RPM measurement of turbodrills and implementing a test rig for characterizing turbo drill tools.

In 2013, Steve joined Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants as a Senior Staff Pipeline Engineer, working on projects such as the Mad Dog Phase 2 Project and the Juniper Project. Steve then transferred to Technip, still within Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants, and continued working as a Senior Staff Pipeline Engineer until 2016.

From 2016 to 2019, Steve worked at Halliburton as an R&D Mechanical Engineering Advisor. Steve supported the design and development of chassis for mounting PCB boards of drilling tools and rotary steerable systems. Steve also developed FEA models to analyze vibration and impact and validated them based on test results.

Steve's most recent experience is at Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants, where they have been serving as the Principal Pipeline Engineer since 2019. In this role, they have worked on projects such as the Barzan Pipeline Reuse Feasibility Study and the Yellowtail & Guyana EPC3 Pre-FEED & FEED. Steve has also conducted seismic analysis of an integrated subsea system for the Matapal Project.

Steve Mao holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa. Steve also has a Master's degree in Computational Mechanics and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanics, both from Dalian University of Technology.
