Dr. Sargent has been working in the field of gene editing in mammalian cells since 1987, beginning with his postdoctoral studies at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK) and Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Sargent has worked in the Bay Area since 1998, directing academic and biotech company research programs focused on developing high-efficiency gene editing technologies for human therapeutics and agricultural applications as well as human pluripotent stem cell applications. He teaches Biochemistry and Stem Cell Biology courses at UC Berkeley Extension and was previously a research scientist at UC San Francisco. Dr. Sargent earned his undergraduate degree in Applied Biology at Georgia Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics at Oregon State University.
