Tyrone Oliver has extensive experience in law enforcement and corrections, currently serving as Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Corrections since January 2023. Prior to this role, Tyrone held the position of Commissioner at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice from July 2019 to January 2023. Tyrone's career also includes serving as Chief of Police and Deputy City Manager for the City of Social Circle from January 2016 to July 2019, and as a Lieutenant in the Brookhaven Police Department from June 2013 to January 2016. Tyrone began a notable tenure at the Newton County Sheriff's Office in April 1999 as Criminal Investigations Lieutenant until June 2013. Additionally, Tyrone served in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman from March 1998 to March 1999 and worked as a Funeral Home Assistant at George W. Levett Sr. & Sons Funeral prior to military service. Tyrone's educational background includes studies at Columbus State University and Troy University.
