Karen Hampton, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has extensive experience in human resources, currently serving as the Director of Human Resources at the Georgia Department of Economic Development since August 2006. Prior to this role, Karen held the position of Director of Human Resources at the Office of State Administrative Hearings from November 2000 to August 2006. Karen's career in human resources began at the Georgia State Merit System, where responsibilities included Personnel Director and Personnel Analyst from October 1987 to November 2000. Karen holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from The University of Georgia, obtained between 1993 and 1996, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (ABJ) from the same institution, completed from 1981 to 1985.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is the state’s sales and marketing arm, the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, align workforce education and training with in-demand jobs, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia, and promoting the state as a destination for arts and location for film, music and digital entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.
