Mary Lynn later became the Vice President and Southeast Bureau Chief at CNN, overseeing the daily newsgathering operation in the Southeast region of the United States. In 2019, they joined Georgia Public Broadcasting as the Vice President of News, responsible for managing the organization's digital, radio, and television platforms. Mary Lynn also worked as a Media Consultant and Communications Specialist during this time.

Mary Lynn Ryan attended Mount Mercy Academy in Buffalo, NY from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they did not obtain a degree or specialize in any specific field of study.
