Harriet L. Robinson has had a long and distinguished career in research and development. Harriet L. began their career in 1965 as a National Science Foundation Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley in the Laboratory of Dr. Harry Rubin. Harriet L. then went on to pursue a doctoral degree at MIT with Dr. James E. Darnell as their thesis advisor. In 1967, they took a break from their studies to focus on family life. In 1977, they returned to the workforce as a staff, then senior, then principal scientist at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology. In 1988, they became a professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. In 1997, they joined the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University as the Chief of the Division of Microbiology and Immunology and a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. In 1999, they were appointed the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Emory University. In 2001, they co-founded GeoVax Labs, Inc. and held the roles of Director of HIV Vaccines, Chief Scientific Officer, Senior Vice President of Research and Development, and Scientific Advisor. In 2018, they were appointed Emeritus Chief Scientific Officer at GeoVax Inc.
Harriet L. Robinson attended Girls' Latin School from 1951 to 1955. Harriet L. then went on to Swarthmore College, where they earned a B.A. in 1959. Harriet L. continued their studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning an M.S. in 1961 and a Ph.D. in 1965.
