John W. Sharkey, PhD

John W. Sharkey, PhD has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. John W. began their career in 1988 as an Executive Director of Business Development and Associate Director of Drug Delivery Systems at Novartis. In 2000, they transitioned to CIBA Vision/Novartis Ophthalmics as Vice President of Business Development. From 2003 to 2007, they served as President and Board Member of Ophthalmic International, a company developing a device for the non-invasive treatment of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. John W. then moved to Shionogi Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as Executive Vice President of Business Development and Alliance Management. In 2010, they became a Corporate Development Consultant and Board Advisor at Iconic Therapeutics, and in 2013, they joined Umbra Global as a Member of the Advisory Board. From 2014 to 2017, they held the role of Head of Business Development at AEterna Zentaris Inc. and from 2017 to 2020, they were the Chief Executive Officer of Largent Health. In 2020, they joined GeoVax Labs, Inc. as a consultant for Head of Business Development, and in June 2022, they transitioned to Vice President of Business Development.

John W. Sharkey, PhD received their B.S. in Chemistry from SUNY Oneonta between 1975 and 1979. John W. then went on to receive their Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University at Buffalo between 1979 and 1986.
