Karen H. King has extensive experience in the transit industry. Karen H. began their career in 1998 at North County Transit District, where they served as the Director of Development and Communication Services until 2001. Karen H. then took on the role of Executive Director at the same company from 2001 to 2008. In 2008, Karen joined Golden Empire Transit District as CEO.

Karen H. King has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the University of Utah. Karen H. also holds a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Intermodal Transportation Management from the University of Denver.

Golden Empire Transit serves the Bakersfield Metropolitan area: The area within the District’s legal boundaries is 187 square miles, and population 510,049 (as of 2022). GET has an active fleet of 82 fixed route buses, including 3 over-the-road MCI buses, plus 35 GET-A-Lift buses which are all fueled with clean burning, compressed natural gas (CNG); 5 buses are fueled with Hydrogen. All fixed route buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and back racks. GET has 404 bus benches made out of recycled plastic milk jugs, purchased with a grant from the Department of Conservation.
