Giraffe Bioenergy - A venture in residence at Delta40 Studio
Giraffe Bioenergy is integrating proven agricultural technology and ethanol manufacturing to produce locally-made ethanol cooking fuel from cassava and serve the growing clean cooking market in Kenya. Our mission is to establish rural bioeconomies increasing the incomes of women in farming communities through large-scale cassava farming and manufacturing of ethanol cooking fuel. Cassava serves as both a crucial food source and a promising biofuel crop. It provides essential nutrients for millions worldwide and is as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels through bioethanol production. Its adaptability, nutritional value, and dual utility make cassava a valuable asset in addressing food and energy security challenges globally. Using Rapid Propagation Technology (RPT), we are revolutionizing cassava farming at our Center for Cassava Excellence in Kilifi, Kenya. Ethanol cooking fuel offers a renewable, clean alternative to traditional fuels like wood or charcoal. It improves indoor air quality, reduces health risks, and provides economic opportunities for local communities, especially in areas with limited energy access. We are motivated to improve the lives of women by providing them with a safe and affordable alternative to charcoal and kerosene as well as by improving livelihoods.
