Sribharat Mathukumilli

President at GITAM Deemed University

Sri Bharat Mathukumilli is the president of GITAM, Deemed-to-be University set up in 1980 in Visakhapatnam. GITAM currently has four campuses, 21 schools and a student body of over 25,000 students.

He is the founder of Kautilya School of Public Policy, Hyderabad - a premier public policy school modelled along the lines of Ivy League Public Policy schools that nurtures the future public leaders of India.

He contested from Vizag (Visakhapatnam) Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general elections on behalf of TDP (Telugu Desam Party) and lost by a narrow margin. He continues to be active in public life and is currently the Visakhapatnam parliament in charge of TDP in Andhra Pradesh. In this role, he ensures that, through TDP, the interests of Visakhapatnam's citizens get the best representation in the Parliament.

He holds an undergraduate degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, B.S. Industrial Engineering Class of 2010. He also holds a joint degree in MBA / MA Education Class of 2016 from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, USA.

He serves in various capacities in organizations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He serves as a board trustee in Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, Hyderabad. He is a board member of TiE Andhra Pradesh, Board Retreat Chair and former chapter president of Entrepreneurs’ Organization Andhra Pradesh. He is an investor and advisor of a select group of promising start-ups.

Before GITAM, he established a 3.5MW solar power plant and led the family business’s foray into Solar Power generation right after returning to India from Stanford in 2016. He also worked on establishing a Hydro energy power plant in Odisha.
