Sergey Makarov is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in climate finance, policy advisory, and carbon market regulation. Currently serving as Programme Director for Climate Risk Management in Central Asia at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH since April 2018, Sergey has also held roles as Cluster Coordinator for ASEAN and Advisor to the Green Climate Fund. Prior to this, Sergey worked as a self-employed policy advisor focusing on climate finance negotiations and due diligence. From 2000 to 2016, Sergey was employed at the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, contributing as a Programme Officer in carbon market regulation and financial cooperation. Sergey holds an MBA from London Business School and an MSc in Physics from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, with additional studies at Caltech.
