Sebastian Schmoekel

Sebastian Schmoekel has extensive work experience in human resources management. Sebastian currently serves as the HR Director for Glatfelter, where they lead the HR function for the European region with a team of over 40 HR professionals. Prior to this, they worked at bp as the Regional People & Culture Manager for Europe, where they supported the scaling up of the EV charging business and served as a business partner to leaders across Europe.

Before joining bp, Schmoekel held various roles at Weatherford. As the HR Director for Global Projects, they drove projects to standardize and simplify HR operations and facilitated smooth mergers and acquisitions. Sebastian also served as the HR Director for Productivity & Performance, leading HR centers of excellence for the Eastern Hemisphere, and as the HR Director for Europe Africa Region and Europe Caspian Region.

Schmoekel started their career at Lapmaster Wolters GmbH, where they served as the HR Director, leading the global HR function across multiple countries. Sebastian also held the role of Deputy HR Director, driving standardization of HR processes, and served as the HR Manager for international operations.

Prior to Lapmaster Wolters, they worked as a Consultant at Watson Wyatt (Thailand).

Sebastian Schmoekel completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Asian University of Science and Technology between 2005 and 2007. Prior to that, they received a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Management from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg from 2001 to 2004. Additionally, Sebastian has obtained certifications in various HR-related subjects from LinkedIn, including using metrics to drive HR strategy, employee experience, strategic human resources, and HR and digital transformation.
