Johan van der Merwe

Johan Van Der Merwe has extensive experience in operational excellence and asset reliability, currently serving as General Manager for Glencore Copper in operational excellence and technology since January 2024. Previously, Johan held the position of General Manager of Asset Reliability at Kamoto Copper Company SA from March 2022 to February 2024 and served as General Manager of Operational Excellence at Kamoto Copper Company SA from October 2020 to July 2022. Prior to this, Johan worked at BHP for over a decade, ascending through various managerial roles including Manager of Asset Engineering, Surface Engineering, Backfill and Surface Mining, and Performance and Improvement. Johan's contributions include accountability for asset integrity, engineering systems, and the implementation of productivity and organizational improvements. Johan's career commenced as Shift Supervisor at BHP Billiton / Alusaf / Hillside from 1994 to 1999. Educational credentials include studies at Pretoria Technicon, University of Pretoria, and UNISA.
