Sumedh Gostu

Sumedh Gostu, PhD, currently serves as Technical Risk Manager and Hydrometallurgy Expert II Technical Director at Glencore, overseeing operations and commercial due diligence in the lithium-ion and battery recycling sectors. With a robust background in metallurgy, Sumedh has previously held roles as Senior Research Scientist and Project Manager at Air Liquide, where innovations in gold, copper, and lithium extraction processes were developed. Sumedh earned a PhD in Materials Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, focusing on extracting valuable metals from industrial waste, and a Master’s in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Additional experience includes consulting at Global Mineral Recovery, internships with Rio Tinto and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and research assistantships at the Colorado School of Mines and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
