Mark Shaw is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in crime prevention, criminal justice reform, and international drug policy. Currently serving as the Director of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime since April 2013, Mark also holds a board member position at HEUNI, the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control. Previous roles include contributions as a Professor at the University of Cape Town, Senior Visiting Fellow at LSE IDEAS, and significant positions within UNODC, including Acting Deputy Director for Operations. With a PhD in Conflict Resolution from the University of the Witwatersrand, Mark has engaged in high-level advisory services for governments, managed complex international programs, and led research initiatives aimed at enhancing security and justice in transitional societies.
