Karen Burns has held a variety of positions in the technology industry since 1990. Karen began their career as a Marketing Manager at Husky Computers in 1990. Karen then moved on to become the Director of Marketing Communications at Tech Data in 1992. In 1996, they took on the role of VP Business Planning/CFO at Kaset International and AchieveGlobal. Karen then held the position of Director of Marketing at Knowledge Management Software and VP Marketing at OpenNetwork Technologies, Inc. in 2000. In 2002, they became a Management Consultant and then in 2006, they became the Chief Analyst (Consultant) at the Global Technology Distribution Council. Karen has also been the Director of the International Field Office (Ship-Board) at Semester At Sea/ISE nine times since 1983.

Karen Burns has an extensive education history. Karen obtained their MBA from The Wharton School in 1986, majoring in Finance and Marketing. Prior to that, they obtained their BA in Economics from Villanova University in 1980. In 2004, they attended the Leadership St Pete Class of 2004. From 2000 to 2011, they attended the Poynter Institute. In 1979, they studied abroad in London. Karen obtained their BA Freshman Year from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1977. Additionally, they were a Field Director on 9 Voyages with Semester At Sea / ISE.
