Sophia Karaev is currently a Research Assistant at Argirion Lab and a Student Program Assistant at Georgetown University Health Education Services, both positions held since January 2024. Additionally, Sophia serves as the Communications Chair for GlobeMed since September 2023. Previously, a Medical Assistant and Research Coordinator at Specialty Aesthetic Surgery from May to August 2024, Sophia also held the role of Research Vice President at Hunter Students for Comprehensive Drug Education from February 2022 to June 2023 and volunteered as a tutor with Steel City Codes from October 2022 to March 2023. Sophia's early experience includes an internship as a Clinical Research Intern at Lenox Hill Hospital during the summer of 2022. Sophia is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Science at Georgetown University, with an expected graduation date in May 2027, following completion of education at Hunter College High School in 2023.

GlobeMed envisions a world in which health – the ability to not only survive but thrive – is possible for all people. We aim to strengthen the movement for global health equity by mobilizing a community of students and grassroots leaders to improve the health of people around the world. From 2006 to 2023, the GlobeMed network engaged thousands of undergraduate students at university-based chapters. Each chapter is partnered with a community-led health organization in Africa, Asia, or the Americas. By building one-to-one partnerships between students and grassroots organizations, GlobeMed fostered the dialogue, collaboration, and mutual learning we need to tackle today’s complex global health challenges.
