Koen Vandyck

Koen Vandyck has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on medicinal and organic chemistry. Koen is currently working as a Senior Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Galapagos since March 2023. Before that, they held the position of Senior Director of Chemistry at Aligos Therapeutics from March 2020 to March 2023 and Director of Chemistry from September 2018 to March 2020. Prior to that, Koen worked at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, where they held various positions including Senior Principal Scientist/Associate Scientific Director from July 2016 to August 2018, Associate Scientific Director from October 2015 to June 2016, Principal Scientist from April 2015 to September 2015, and Principal Scientist of Medicinal Chemistry from April 2012 to March 2015. Koen started their career at Tibotec, where they worked as a Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry from March 2009 to March 2012, Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry from July 2007 to February 2009, and as a postdoc from April 2006 to July 2007. Koen Vandyck obtained their PhD in Organic Chemistry from Ugent, where they conducted research on Rhodium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Conjugate Additions of Boronic Acids to Enones from 2000 to 2006.

Koen Vandyck holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from UHasselt which was obtained from 1996 to 1998. Koen then pursued a Master's degree in Chemistry at Ghent University from 1998 to 2000. Later, they completed their education with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, also at Ghent University, from 2000 to 2006. Before these tertiary qualifications, they attended Agnetendal Peer from 1990 to 1996, though the specific degree or field of study from that period is not provided.
