Joseph Lisee

Staff Software Engineer at Glydways

Joseph Lisee has a strong background in software engineering, with a focus on autonomous systems and robotics. Joseph has extensive experience in developing software for self-driving vehicles, including creating a customized Linux OS, implementing CAN software interfaces, and developing core automation and deployment tooling.

Joseph has worked at several reputable companies, including Glydways, where they are currently employed as a Staff Software Engineer. Prior to that, they worked at Aurora as a Senior Staff Software Engineer and Staff Software Engineer.

Before their time at Aurora, Joseph worked at Uber as a Senior Software Engineer II and Senior Software Engineer. During their tenure at Uber, they played a key role in developing a customized Linux OS for stable operation and rapid self-driving vehicle development. Joseph also developed a CAN software interface and reverse-engineered vehicle telemetry. Joseph's responsibilities also included implementing automation, lint, build, packaging, and deployment tooling for a full-stack autonomy system.

Joseph's earlier experience includes working at the National Robotics Engineering Center, where they served as a Research Programmer. Joseph was involved in developing and maintaining system-level software for robotic systems and optimizing distributed robotic autonomy software. At the Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, Joseph worked as a Graduate Student, contributing to the Cluster project focused on coordinated robot manipulation and sliding autonomy. Joseph also worked as a Software Engineer at the Space Systems Laboratory, where they designed and implemented a GUI system for sharing graphical components among multiple robot control stations and developed operator control interfaces for displaying vehicle telemetry and issuing commands.

Additionally, Joseph gained experience as a Research Assistant at the Space Systems Laboratory, University of Maryland, and as an intern at Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, where they worked on engineering control and test interfaces for automated takeoff and landing systems, as well as test and configuration procedures for Novatel GPS hardware.

Joseph Lisee obtained a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Maryland, where they attended from 2004 to 2008. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master's degree in Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University from 2009 to 2011.
