Jeffrey Smith

Jeffrey Smith is a highly experienced scientist specializing in discovery chemistry, currently serving as Principal Scientist II at GNF since August 2010. Previously, Jeffrey worked at Arena Pharmaceuticals from 1999 to 2009, where significant contributions included designing and synthesizing benzazepines for a 5-HT2C receptor agonist program that led to the discovery of BELVIQ. In addition, Jeffrey developed lead compounds for an H3 receptor inverse agonist program and managed the chemistry direction of a Research Associate. Earlier, Jeffrey gained experience as an intern in process chemistry at Agouron Pharmaceuticals in 1998, focusing on optimizing synthetic routes and large-scale purifications. Jeffrey holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from UC San Diego.
