Evan Freed

Evan Freed has a diverse work experience in the field of site reliability engineering and customer data engineering. Evan is currently employed at Teleport as a Site Reliability Engineer.

Previously, Evan worked at Elastic from 2017 to 2022, where they held the role of Principal Site Reliability Engineer. In this position, they led a team of around 10 members as an Area Lead, overseeing project delivery, technical design, and mentoring engineers. Evan also designed and developed infrastructure using Terraform across various cloud providers like AWS, GCP, Azure, and IBM Softlayer. Evan managed a large containerized environment with over 100,000 containers and 10,000 virtual machines, hosting petabytes of customer data across multiple cloud regions.

Before Elastic, Evan worked at ObjectRocket, Inc. from 2015 to 2017 as a Customer Data Engineer. Their responsibilities included supporting customer DBaaS needs, specializing in MongoDB and Elasticsearch. Evan handled tasks such as upgrading, scaling, query optimization, driver tuning for MongoDB, and performed deployments, scaling, upgrades, and plugin installations for Elasticsearch.

Prior to that, Evan worked at Cerner Corporation from 2013 to 2015 as a System Engineer. Evan demonstrated expertise in both backend and frontend environments, executing tasks such as LVM filesystem resizing, Linux/Unix troubleshooting, RPM package installs, and CUPS printer installation. Evan provided remote systems support and conducted on-site implementations for production hospitals.

Evan's earlier experiences include working at Cedarville University in various roles such as Operations Coordinator, Student Network Technician, Programs Director, and Head Mens Dorm Technician. Evan also served as the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at SuToRoot on a part-time basis. Additionally, Evan worked at Mount Vernon Community High School as an Assistant Network Director while attending school.

From 2009 to 2013, Evan Freed attended Cedarville University, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Management of Information Systems.
