Sharples co-founded HomeAway with Carl Shepherd in February 2005. He raised over $400 million in private funding to acquire market-leading vacation rental websites around the world. Since then, Sharples has built HomeAway into a cohesive global network backed by a unified technology platform.
Sharples is the former president and chief executive officer of IntelliQuest Information Group, a supplier of marketing data and research to Fortune 500 technology companies. He also completed two successful public offerings and the subsequent sale of IntelliQuest to WPP Group.
An expert in technology brand strategy, Mr. Sharples has counseled several major brands, including Apple, Microsoft and Dell. He currently serves on the board of directors for RetailMeNot (NASDAQ: SALE), Fexy Media, and Twyla. He is an investment advisor to venture capital firm, Institutional Venture Partners, and private equity firm, Tritium Partners. Mr. Sharples is also a passionate entrepreneur and is currently involved with several startups.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in math and economics from Colby College and a master’s degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
