Hugh Anderson has a extensive work experience in both the private and public sector. Hugh began their career in the Royal Navy in 1985, serving as an officer for over twenty years until 2007. During their time in the Navy, they also worked as a barrister from 1995 until 2007. Following their military service, Hugh joined Godolphin in 2007 as the Managing Director for the UK and Dubai. Godolphin is an international thoroughbred bloodstock organization involved in racing and breeding in various countries around the world.

Hugh Anderson attended UCL from 1989 to 1992, where they obtained their LLB degree in Laws. From 1995 to 1996, they attended the Inns of Court School of Law, completing their Bar Finals degree in Law. In 1985 to 1986, Hugh attended the Britannia Royal Naval College. In 2005, they pursued a postgraduate course in Public International Law at the University of Oxford, focusing on the Law of the Sea and International Humanitarian Law. Hugh also attended the U.S. Naval War College in 2004, specializing in International Humanitarian Law. Hugh Anderson's education history also includes an Advanced Management Achievement Course at Alliance Manchester Business School, although the years of attendance are undisclosed.
