The District is comprised of San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Napa counties and portions of Del Norte and Mendocino counties. The District expanded its mission in 1970 when it began the operation of Golden Gate Ferry and the operation of Golden Gate Transit regional bus service in 1972
